The Greentrees Country Day School provides a warm learning environment, a loving staff, flexible schedules, before and after care, an optional lunch program, vacation care, and transportation. Our school offers an intimate and safe environment where young children are encouraged to meet their full potential in a year-round program. Our goal is to ensure that every child looks forward to school each day.
The Greentrees Country Day School strives to help each child develop to his/her maximum potential. A fixture in the community for over 30 years, Greentrees believes that children will develop through a variety of experiences. Our curriculum teaches the fundamental skills that help determine success in adult life. We believe our students will grow through a variety of experiences, including challenging activities that encourage them physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually.
The Greentrees Country Day School was founded on the premise that the best gift you can give your child is the love of learning.
The High/Scope Approach to Learning
Greentrees follows the New York State recommended curriculum. Toddler children (age 2) through Kindergarten take part in challenging school activities in a stimulating and creative environment. The curriculum, based on New York State standards and the High/Scope philosophy, forms the basis of the child-centered learning program at Greentrees. Your child will acquire the rudiments of reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. Inside every classroom, you will see children at play; initiating activities, and testing their skills, while they learn about social interaction. The High/Scope approach “promotes independence, curiosity, decision making, cooperation, persistence, creativity, and problem solving — the fundamental skills that help determine success in adult life.” In a Greentrees classroom, carefully selected staff members are highly trained, sensitive, enthusiastic and dedicated. The teaching staff facilitates an enriching, nurturing classroom environment where learning through discovery begins a lifelong love of learning.

At the Greentrees Country Day School, we understand the key role parents play in their child’s education. Your child’s teacher will provide information about classroom activities in a weekly newsletter. Parent teacher conferences are held twice each year to discuss your child’s progress. Several parent workshops are offered throughout the year to cover a variety of topics such as a discussion suggesting activity ideas which help reinforce what is being learned in school. In trying to accommodate parents with various schedules, some of our workshops and events take place in the evening and on weekends.
We encourage family members to join the classroom for career sharing, celebrations, to be a secret reader or just to stop by. The children, their parents, teachers and the directors make up one big extended family.
